From the Baron & Baroness

Greetings Fellow Boggers,

Unto the Goode and Noble people of the Barony of Saint Swithin's Bog do We Aquila and AElfra, Retiring Baron and Baroness, Saint Swithin's Bog bid a fond greeting and farewell:

We have had an amazing three years serving as your Baron and Baroness. We have been humbled by the kindness and generosity of the people of the Barony.
In our time we have witnessed the rising of a new Incipient Canton, have seen fencers elevated to White Scarf, fighter's be squired, THL's made, and a Pelican roost in our Barony. It has been an incredible journey, one that soon ends. We look forward to continuing to serve the Barony in other ways. We take from these last three years a sense of friendship and pride in our fellow Boggers.
We can not in good conscience give name to those who have helped us for fear of leaving anyone out. We say Thank You! To everyone who has helped us carry, tote, set up, made scrolls, made tokens, made garb, got us to where we were supposed to be, retained, guarded us, hauled stuff, made regalia, recommended awards, been Baronial Champions, served high table, set up high table, kept us in good spirits (especially the kind to be drank), kept us from making an a-- of ourselves, kept us sane and everything else. Thank you, Thank You, Thank You, you are the strength of the Barony, have kept the Barony going and have made us so proud to be your representatives.
We send congratulations to our new Incipient Canton of Geal Mor and ask that the Barony help them become a viable resource in the western area of the Barony.
So we go now unto our retirement with light hearts as we know our Heirs will tend well the Barony we so love. We know the Goode and Noble people of the Barony will show them the same love and respect that you have shown us.

As always, In service to the Bog
Baron Aquila Blackmore and Baroness AElfra Long
Palus Elementum!!

From the Baronial Heirs

Unto the populous of the Barony of St. Swithin's Bog from Don Quinn and Dame Vivienne, Baron and Baroness-elect, do these heartfelt greetings come,

This month’s three-day event marks our investiture as St. Swithin’s Bog’s third Baron and Baroness. Since becoming a Barony we have grown and matured. The past 6 years have been a fun and exciting journey. While the road that we have traveled has not been without its rocky and rutted stretches, we have continued to move forward. Today we stand, along side our fellow Baronies, as a strong and unwavering pillar of AEthelmearc. No single person can take credit for this achievement. Our traditions of unity and dedication have made it all possible. Pause for a moment and consider what these traditions truly mean.
Recall those shining moments when the fighting was the thickest, and the sun blazed hot and merciless. Remember that person that stood at your side and refused to give ground for no other glory than to say they were with you on that day.
Cherish your memories of peace when our halls of learning produced the finest of works, when we learned and taught together freely. Recall when you were welcomed to a warm glowing fire and shared a story, a drink or a song , with an open and generous heart.
Recall in your mind when the days were the darkest, when you were cold and hungry and far from home. Remember those people that filled your belly and took the cloak from their very back and covered you with it.
Ask yourself if you have ever wanted for anything in the company of these people. Ask yourself if there has ever been a task that wasn’t made easy with their helping hands.

We are honored to help continue these traditions, the traditions that make us what we are. We will lead when necessary, follow when appropriate but mostly stand shoulder to shoulder with our fellow Boggers and continue the journey.

From the Chronicler

Greetings all,

As you look through the pages of your Sentinel you shall notice some changes. The most noticeable is that, until the Canton decides to have its own newsletter, the Barony has graciously agreed to share the Sentinel with the Canton. I’m going to attempt one of the suggestions on how to make the sharing work. If anyone has any difficulties or further suggestions, please feel free to contact me.
Also, as no one stepped forward to take over the newsletter, I have agreed to remain in office for another year. Thankfully, Lady Morrigan offered to become my assistant Chronicler and after this issue she will begin to assist in creating the Sentinel.
As always, if you have any submissions or suggestions or artwork for the cover or as inside filler, please contact me, Cait (aka Kathleen) at 724-238-0114 (if you get the answering machine, please leave a message) or bogchronicler@yahoo.com.

In service to crown and bog,
Lady Caitilin "Cait" ni Mhaolconaire

From the Seneschale-to-be

Unto our Excellencies Aquila and AElfra, Their heirs Don Quinn and Dame Vivienne, and the Bog.

For those of you who do not know, I will be the new Seneschale after the ceremonial throwing of the Key at Bog Chaos July 16-18.
I hear growth within our midst with the "soon to be" Incipient Canton of Geal Mor, as well as the rumblings of War in the distance. Let us prepare to fight with honor, shop with a vengeance, and remember there is no better drink than Gobi!
Talishar I could never replace you because you are un-replaceable.

In honor, chivalry and courtesy
I remain in your service
Katya

From the Scribal Mistress

Scribal Guild, we are meeting the First Tuesday of each month at our house, starting at 7pm. For More Information: cindleap@atlanticbb.net.

First I would like to welcome Diane as part of the scribal community. She has graciously accepted her first assignment! I would also like to thank Bethany for the wonderful needlepoint scroll she did for Rose Thorne. If you didn't stay for Court at the Spring Thing, you missed roses in the air, on the floor and in other places we won't mention!
The scribal Guild will have LOTS of up coming assignments. While we seem to have the assignments for "Bog Chaos" under control before you know it, we will need scrolls for Baronial Champions. Any one who would like to do a blank for Baronial Champs, please let me know at cindleap@atlanticbb.net. If you can do Calligraphy, please send me an email at cindleap@atlanticbb.net.
We have approximately 6 scrolls that need calligraphy finished, so they can be given out at Court.
Please mark the First Tuesday of Each Month on your calendar. The next meeting will be July 6th at our home starting at 7pm. Need directions? cindleap@atlanticbb.net

Thanks for all your continual help,
Katya

From the Chatelaine

Greetings all,

This is a slightly belated missive regarding a presentation at the Forest Hills High School. A few weeks ago, we put on a small demo for approx. 100 students & faculty. One of our younger members, (Keagan <sp> mundanely known as Frankie), is a student there. He helped to set up the presentation as a part of his school project. Another newer Bogger, Julie (the young lady fencer), showed up to assist. During the demo, we showed dancing; (with a couple of students from the audience helping). We had fencing and even some armored combat. At the end, we took questions from the audience and had four people sign up for additional info.
My thanks, (and a hearty "well done") to Frankie for his help, both as a contact for the school as well as his help throughout the demo. Thanks Tower, for the use of your shields. And a special thank you to Julie, (who volunteered to come & help, with only 2 hours notice).

A&S Competition and Baronial A&S Championship

So sorry in the delay of this announcement, as I was unaware as last year's winner, it was my duty to choose the theme for this year's event. I apologize for the inconvenience in not giving our artisans more time to work on their entries.
Therefore I have chosen a theme that hopefully will be of interest to many people in all areas of A&S and allow you to have some flexibility in your entries.
In line with the theme of this year's 3-Day Event, I have chosen our A&S competition theme to be: "Organized Chaos"
It will be your challenge to create an entry which allows you to organize the chaos in your life, what ever that may be.
In other words- holders and containers of all types that can hold/organize your chaotic stuff.
You may think of something to hold your piles of food, your many beverages, your pile of armor or garb. It could organize your scribal supplies or metalworking tools. Anything that helps you keep your stuff in neat order- and being period (or at least looking very period) will be considered.
Creativity, quality craftsmanship, originality and of course functionality are highly valued attributes for this competition.
Have fun with this and show off the many talents of our populous!
I hope the judges have a hard time choosing the winner!

Clear Skies,
Lady Kathryn de Lyon de Savoire, "Kat"

June Business Meeting Minutes

Greetings fellow Boggers.........here's the short of the long:

Sunday at 4pm Kingdom Seneschale, Aobheil was here to meet with everyone who's someone from BSSB, Gryphon's Keep and Geal Moor. After viewing the zip code map and conferring amongst the representatives a decision was reached and zip codes were formally signed over to Gryphon's Keep and the incipient Canton of Geal Moor. An official announcement is to be forthcoming in the next AEstel. Sometime within the next few weeks I will have revamped the Baronies zip code list to reflect the current state of geographical affairs.

At 5pm we commenced with the June monthly meeting........

Baron/ess: This has been a fun three years and now it's almost over. Thanks for coming to the event, it was a lot of fun (Spring thing). Anyone who has anything for the gift baskets, give it to Viv.

Seneschale: The official signing over of Zips has taken place. Geal Moor will become official with Kingdoms announcement of said. Next month or perhaps at the three day Geal Moor will be awarded it's seed money as stated in our by-laws.
Calls for letters of intent were sent out and so far only two replied. One has decided to maintain his current office, leaving only one candidate for the office of Seneschale. (ahhh, when things become simpler :-) Our next Seneschale will be Katerina de La Marne mka Cindy Leap and will be taking over at the three day.

Exchequer: 3,123 in checking, 2,008 in savings. Checks were signed and distributed at the meeting, balance stated was prior to signing.

Chatelaine: Thanks for the Green Gables help. Several interested parties signed up. Next on the agenda, a demo for Bedford.

Archery: Come shoot, lots of equipment available for loan, willing to teach, so come have fun.

Chronicler: reminded all the July Bog business meeting will be held on July 11th due to the holiday weekend. The newsletter will be shared until Geal Moor gets one up and running and a Geal Moor web page is in the works.

Baroness 2B: Vivienne gave notice that gate guards for the Kingdom encampment at Pennsic will be needed again this year. We are to do August the 9th, the Wednesday that the Bog is hosting the Baronial Dinner at the AElthelmearc camp. Don Lodovic will be Capt. of the Guard, contact him for info and volunteering.

Old stuff: Katya gave a big thank you to all who worked hard on the zip code issue this past year and stated, good job done.

New: Ligonier has a country market and there could be a chance of a Demo there. Go ahead was given for this to be researched with the organizers and co-ordination will be handled with Jorka.

Event stuff: Spring Thing thank yous were given by the autocrats. 64 persons had registered. Event report is in the works.
Three day info. Things going well and plans forming nicely. The site is building new bathrooms (yeah) Pork and Turkey cooked on site will be for feast.
Kat stated that things look good for the Fall Academy and we are awaiting final word from Kingdom. The site will be Seton Hill College, free due to her alumnus status.

Additional: Deryk volunteered to autocrat the Baronial Champs event for 2004 to be held in Latrobe.

And chaos was declared.

Lady Talishar
