From the Baron & Baroness

Greeting Fellow Boggers

We wish you all a happy and healthy year to come.

We are pleased to announce we now have heirs! Don Quinn Kerr and Dame Vivienne Marie de Beauvais were chosen as our successors and will be invested in July.

As many of you know we once again have a place for everyone to meet. Fighters, fencers, artisan, and those who just like to spend time with their fellow Boggers are all invited Sundays to the Hirim G. Andrews Center from 3:30 -10:00. The site is large and there are even showers available. It's just like old times! Classes are being scheduled and please feel free to bring along any project you are working on to share or ask questions about. We hope to see you all there.

So long as the Raven flies and the Cattails grow, we remain,
in service to Crown and Bog, Happy New Year

Baron Aquila and Baronesss AElfra

Baronial Bardic Championship Competition at 12th Night

The Baron and Baroness have declared that the theme for the Baronial Bardic Championship, to be held at the Bog 12th Night, for this year is "That which is pleasing to both Lord and Lady".

The 7 Pearls Championship will be held at the Baronial Dinner held at the Pennsic War.

We look forward to seeing you compete.

From the Seneschale

Greetings,

Fortunately for everyone the Seneschale has writers block this month. So just imagine that I said something profound and enlightening that caused you to have an epiphany that will make this coming year the best SCA experience you've ever had. Glad I could help.

In service,
Lady Augusta Long called Talishar

From the Chronicler

Greetings Boggers,

I’m hoping all of you enjoyed safe and joyous holidays.

Officers, please continue to send reports/articles. Keep them short and uncomplicated, or write an article that might assist a new person interested in helping or practicing under your office. Any officers who’s term is about to expire, please send in a description of your office for those who might consider taking over.

As always, if you have any submissions or suggestions or artwork for the cover or as inside filler, please contact me, Cait (aka Kathleen) at 724-238-0114 (if you get the answering machine, please leave a message) or bogchronicler@yahoo.com.

In service to crown and bog,
Lady Caitilin "Cait" ni Mhaolconaire

From the Webminister

Greetings from your local web slinger.

The Bog website is still up and running and working well. We've got 17 photo albums on-line currently and I'll add more as events occur and people send me pics. If you want to get your face on the web send me a picture and I'll add you to the lineup in the Bogger Mugshot Gallery. We have pics of 43 boggers on there right now.

If you have a registered name and device and don't have it in displayed in our on-line armorial then please contact me with the information and we'll get you in there. I also list your Kingdom and Barony awards there. We currently have 25 coats of arms in the armorial and I'm sure there are more Boggers out there with them.

I think everything on the site is current. As always, please e-mail me with any corrections or updates. If you tell me about it, I'll forget before I get home. If you e-mail me then I update the site as soon as I read the message before I get up from the computer and forget about it.

Are there any suggestions for new features for the Bog Pages? We have plenty of space on our server. We were upgraded to 100 megs of space for no extra charge when our host re-did their rate structure and we're only using 39.8 megs of that. I have no plans for any major changes.

I just realized that I've been your Web Minister for almost six years. I guess another two year term would be ending at 12th Night. I really enjoy working on the Bog Pages and would like to keep doing so indefinitely unless someone else really really really wants the job.

That's all I have to say for now.

In Service, I remain as always,
Lord Kenn the Just

In service,
Lord Deryk Archer

From the Scribal Guild Mistress

Greetings to one and all!

The Scribal Guild for many years has been under the wonderful watch and care of Lord Kusar (who's new name escapes me). His guidance, talents and patience have taught us all so very much. While he will no longer head the guild, we are sure to see his work from time to time.

For those that don't know, the scribal guild is responsible for all those wonderful pieces of art that are given as awards and honors. We do blanks (illuminations with no wording), as well as completed works. As guild mistress it is my responsibility to get award recommendations from the Baron and Baroness, and to assign it to one of the guild members. I then make sure all scrolls are finished and on hand so the Herald can have them in time to be presented in Court

Each member of the guild has his or her own talents; some do beautiful detailed illumination, others calligraphy, and some do both. If you would like more information on the Scribal Guild email me at: cindleap@charter.net.

Peace
Lady Katya (Katerina de La Marne)

From the Chatelain

Greetings to all. At this festive time of year, (and with the inclement weather), you are probably not thinking of public demos, but I am (of course).

I plan on scheduling a few public demos this coming year, (like the Green Gables in spring). Also, we could take part in some of the various festivals that take place throughout our area. If you have any suggestions or if you have contact with any organization that would like us to appear, please let me know. Any info about such a festival would be helpful, but, the most important thing I need is a contact name & phone number. Also, if you know someone who you think might be interested in joining us, get me their name & number. I will make sure that they get basic info.

In Service, I Remain
Jorka

From the Mistress of Youth

I wanted to say that the HGA is a wonderful place to gather and meet and get to play together.

As most know I am the Minister of Youth, and as such I want to state that I will be on hand to provide some projects to the young ones of the Bog. I will not be able to attend every week, but those weeks that I am available I will try to have at least an hour or two of activities planned for the kids. But to do this I need YOUR help. Any parent bringing a child to the center please contact me and let me know what your young one is interested in. The last thing I want to do is bore the kids. I want to provide them with stuff that will entertain them, teach them, and occupy their hands and minds and give them something that they can take away each week as a piece of the Dream that we are creating.

Another item that needs to be addressed is that I need a list of all of the children who attend the weekly practices as well as all events. These lists need to be kept for my records as well as for my reports that I will be sending to the Kingdom M O Y .

I will post each week as to whether or not I will be at the Practice at HGA. I look forward to time spent with you all.

In Peace and Harmony
Morrigan of the Willowbrook (mka) Robbin

Thespian Guild/Bardic Circle

"All the world is a stage and the people merely players" Forgive me I couldn't begin an an ad for a possible Thespian's guild without quoting Shakespeare. While the quote could apply to all Scadians who dress up and get together to play on a regular basis. My aim is to see if there is any interest in starting a formal Thespian's guild i. Several areas within the Kingdom have such guilds including Sunderoak and Endless Hills. I have quite some time ago had offers from Baron Connor Mcliam to teach a class if I could find folks interested. Before formally contacting him again I'm trying to gauge interest in forming such a guild or having such a class. I would ask that anyone interested contact Michela Summervale (mka Michelle Gelles) by e-mail mgelles@charter.net or phone 814-539-4498.

I would also be interested in opening my home for a Bardic Circle at some point if people are interested. Though I've no talent for singing myself I do enjoy poetry and have given a recitation or two. I would imagine most of us share a love for period and/or fantasy literature and song and would enjoy having a celebration devoted to the same (especially with the release of return of the king fast approaching:-)

St. Swithin’s Bog Annual 12th Night
January 17, 2004
Barony of St. Swithin's Bog (Jennerstown, PA)

Once again, the Barony of St. Swithin’s Bog invites the Knowne World to join in celebrating our annual 12th Night event to be held on Saturday, January 17, 2004. The event will be held at our traditional site: Green Gables in Jennerstown, PA (no street address), an incredible, period-looking hall with stone walls, huge tree-trunk columns holding up a cathedral ceiling, parquet floors and mullioned windows covered with vines.

Doors will open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 9:00 p.m. As Green Gables is a commercial restaurant with a liquor license, no alcohol can be brought on site; however, the restaurant will provide a cash bar. For your enjoyment we will have an all-day sideboard, entertainment, a sumptuous feast, court and country dancing in the afternoon, plus our traditional auction.

Autocrat for the event is Baroness Charmaine of Falkensee (Sally C. Fink, 331 Penn Ave., Johnstown, PA 15905; 814-255-5176; sphink@twd.net) with Dame Vivienne Marie de Beauvais (Pamela Faint, 136 Strayer St., Johnstown, PA 15906, 814-535-6394; ladyviv@gte.net) as co-autocrat and also entertainment coordinator. If you wish to be part of our entertainment, please contact Dame Vivienne.

The fee for this grand event will be $16.00 which includes the all day sideboard, feast and dessert cornucopia. Off-board will be $14.00, which includes the all-day sideboard only. If you bring an auction item, you may take $3.00 off your site fee. (The $3.00 non-member surcharge will be collected at the door. Please do not include it as part of your reservations.) All halflings (12 and under) will be $8.00, but no auction discount. Make checks payable to "SCA, Inc.—St. Swithin's Bog."
