Unto the FANTASTIC individuals of the Barony of SSB, Greetings and good cheer!
Mere words seem not to be enough to express our
sincere, heartfelt thanks to every single one of you who made Bog Chaos and
especially our investiture, a weekend that will long be remembered. There is no
way to simply put out a list of names because it would include every member we
have and we would probably miss someone and we certainly do not want to leave
anyone out.
It was a glorious day despite the rain, the tourneys
ran well, the kids seemed to be having a good time at their activities, lunch
and the evening feast were both fantastic as well as the wing party Saturday
evening. (And weren't the flush toilets simply grand????? I understand that we
managed to fill the septic system...)
On Sunday, as Don Lodovic has so succinctly put it,
AWESOME, is the only way to describe the Bog Machine going into high gear to
tear down, cart off, and return to storage everything that had been brought to
the site.
Our congratulations go out to those members of the Bog
who received recognition in the form of Awards, both Baronial and Kingdom:
Thanks to all who passed along gifts, took pictures,
stood by us and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the day.
Only in the Bog could this have been done the way it
was with all of us working together. PALUS ELEMENTUM, ST. SWITHIN'S BOG! Vivat
to one and all!
From the Cattail Thrones,
Baron Quinn & Baroness Viv
From the Chronicler
Greetings all, Another fantastic 3-day event has come and gone.
Vivats! to the autocrats of Bog Chaos and to all those who helped with the event
and who received awards, Baronial and Kingdom. The feast was fantastic! In service to crown and bog,
The September issue should be Lady Morrigan’s first try
at creating the Sentinel, let’s all give her our support by getting articles in
by the August 25th deadline. I know Pennsic makes it difficult, but
please try.
As always, if you have any submissions or suggestions or artwork for the
cover or as inside filler, please contact me, Cait (aka Kathleen) at
724-238-0114 (if you get the answering machine, please leave a message) or
bogchronicler@yahoo.com.

Fall AEcademy Update
Greetings everyone, I know this is way in advance, but I'm starting my planning now for Fall
Academy to be held at Seton Hill University in Greensburg on Nov. 6th.
I will need the following volunteers and other things: BEFORE that day: THAT day: *Seton Hill staff will take care of feast, so we just have to concentrate on
making it a great medieval atmosphere for lunch and possible court, as well as
making sure everyone can get to their classrooms easily. *We will all need to encourage anyone on campus to go to the troll area if
they ask you why everyone is dressed up in funny clothes. Anyone willing to volunteer to help out with any of the above items, please
contact me ASAP so I can write you down on my help list. Thank you all so much! Kat
Baronial Championship Event Hosted by the Incipient Canton of St. Swithin's Bog Food: The event will feature an all day buffet. Everyone is asked to bring an
item for the buffet. **Please notify our Feastocrat: Trintjen (Sandy Hutchinson)
of what you’re bringing ASAP. Contact her at: 724-879-8028 or at:
scrappywench@yahoo.com. We request
that you try to make a period dish. Make your favorite medieval recipe to show
off! There is a fireplace/grill in the main pavilion. If anyone wishes to take
on the challenge of grilling, please let Trintjen know. If anyone has any
special dietary or physical needs, also let her know ASAP so that she can take
care of these things ahead of time. ALSO- keep in mind the site does have a
refrigerator, and we will have tables with outlets nearby to put the food on.
However, try to make food that will be ok sitting out all day (covered please),
or can remain warming in a crock pot. If it needs to be kept chilled, please put
it in a well iced cooler. Don't forget to bring and mark any serving utensils so
we may get them back to you. For those who are not cooking, bring items such as
paper towels, extra plastic-ware, bowls, cups, plates, etc. (for others who may
not have feast gear). You may also want to just bring items such as cut up
veggies, nuts, whole fruits, and other such period items that are fine just
sitting in a bowl on a table - you know, good easy finger food! Again, if you
know what you intend to bring in advance, please let Trintjen know. Drinks: We will be providing quick-mix iced tea and of course water. But this
is a WET SITE!! So all of our brewers are expected to bring their latest brews
so we may sample them all! Other needs & activities: If anyone has tarps and tie down ropes, please
bring them to put up around the pavilions in case of rain. If anyone is
interested in teaching/demonstrating any non-martial activities, please notify
us. There is plenty of room to spread out and do other things: A&S work,
dancing, etc. For children’s activities, contact Lady Morrigan (

Fall AEthelmearc AEcademy
The Incipient Canton of Gael Moor will be hosting the Fall AEcademy on Saturday, November 6th, 2004 at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA. This is a great event to participate in a variety of classes on everything from cooking, painting, herbs, music, martial activities, garb construction/history, even first aid. We are looking for volunteer teachers from our populous as well as our sponsor, the Barony of St. Swithin's Bog. We will be having teachers come from many other lands within AEthelmearc, but we would like to see a strong showing of our members teaching on a wide variety of subjects. There will be a medieval buffet provided by the University which has an excellent reputation for their food. There will be a variety of classrooms available, including the fancy parlor rooms, and plenty of space outdoors available if weather permits. For additional information and details, or if you would like to volunteer to teach, please contact the Autocrat: Lady Kathryn de Lyon de Savoire, "Kat" (Lori Mozina-Ogurchak) at mozina1@earthlink.net, or 724-838-0420, or by mail at: RD 11, Box 692, Rt. 819; Greensburg, PA 15601-9140. Remember we are an organization that is about history and education. Come learn more about something that interests you, or something totally new to you! It will be a great day to learn new things, eat great food, make new friends, and of course have fun!
